2010 World Cup Soccer in South Africa. We felt it.

FINALE  OF THE 2010 WORLD CUP SOCCER

Well it has come and gone the 2010 world cup soccer tournament in South Africa.  I must complement South Africa on an excellent run tournament.  Soccer world cup is the biggest sport event and South Africa really came to the for.  The opening ceremony was great but the closing ceremony was terrific.  The cherry on top was seeing Mandala at the closing ceremony.

The visitors to South Africa only had positive comments on our country and were surprised at the beauty and safety that they experience.  The fan walk, in Cape Town, was a gas, to walk the 2 ½ km with the fans was such a wonderful experience especially when you passed restaurants, which were taken over by countries supporting their teams.  These fans were singing, playing drums etc. to show us all who they supported.  The security was amazing, they kept every thing under control and there were no unhappy incidents.

It was great and so unexpected to see Spain and Netherlands in the final.  What happened to all the big names like Brazil, Portugal, England and we certainly will not talk about France?  It just shows that one great big star in a team just does not do it.  Spain and the Netherlands play as a team and relied on all their players to be stars.

The final could have gone either way and a lot of opportunities where missed by both sides. The riffing was good I think the ref made history with how many cards he gave out, but he controlled the game well.  What was great to see was that there where no really unnecessary fouls and the players did not dive and perform that they were hurt, they got on with the game.  Well done Spain on winning.  The most amazing result was Germany coming third, this team of young players, really gave 100% of their ability; watch out for them in the next world cup!

The awards were very well selected, Thomas Mueller, who had the opening goal against Uruguay, which was spectacular, and also netted 5 goals in the tournament, appropriately got the Golden Shoe.  Diego Forlan was a pleasure to watch throughout the tournament and deserved the Golden Ball award.  What can we say about Iker Casillas, he was superb in the goal and though out the tournament he only conceded 2 goals, with this record who else could have received the Golden Glove award.  Well done Iker you are the world’s best goalkeeper. Thomas is so young and plays so well, you can just imagine what an excellent player he will develop into, Thomas Mueller congratulations on being awarded with the Best Young Player award. Andres Iniesta who was the last man of the match award, proved to his team and supporters, that control, consecration and fairplay, make a good player and an asset to his team.  Spain had to get the Fairplay award, in every game they just played their games, with unnecessary mishaps, they were out to win and the team combined to produce good entertaining soccer.

In closing I would just like to say, well done South Africa on producing a wonderful tournament, well done Spain on winning the tournament, you deserved it and lastly everything of the best to Brazil who will be hosting the next Soccer World Cup tournament.

I'm not a great soccer fan, but of course I'm proud that South Africa hosted this year's World Cup. You give a lovely overview of how everything played out.
